Eleanor Owen: 100 Years of Questions

E156 Mental health professional, journalist, playwright, university professor, costume designer, actress human Eleanor Owen has received statewide and national honors and awards for her advocacy work on behalf of families and individuals with mental illness. In 1978, she founded the Washington Advocates for the Mentally Ill and the following year in Wisconsin, she co-founded the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill. She is known in the Washington State House of Representatives and Senate as “The Barracuda” for her advocacy efforts. Born in 1921, she is currently writing her memoir, Mama’s Fireflies.
