E94 – Trans icon and author human Kate Bornstein is also a playwright, performance artist and gender theorist. Assigned male at birth, Kate received gender reassignment surgery in 1986. Joining the Church of Scientology (becoming a high ranking lieutenant in the Sea Org), Kate formally left the movement in 1981. Currently writing two new books; Trans – Just For The Fun Of It and In The Company of Heroines, Kate’s writing credits are a mile long, including Gender Outlaw, Hello Cruel World – 101 Alternatives to Suicide for Teens, Freaks and Other Outlaws, and A Queer and Pleasant Danger, among others.
