Gary Tyler: That’s Good Trouble

E302 Gary Tyler served 41 years, wrongfully accused and convicted of murder at 16 years old. He was sentenced to execution at Louisiana’s Angola prison. Proof of false witness statements, racism, fake evidence, gross negligence, three Pardon boards in his favor, and even with mountains of new evidence proving his innocence over the years, he was still refused release. Yet, through it all, he never gave up hope. He was a model prisoner and led several rehabilitation initiatives in Angola, including the Angola Drama Club, of which he was president and artistic director. This conversation is one of the most heartbreaking and inspiring I’ve had.
